For Estates & Dispersals

Documenting equipment for estates and ranch dispersals

When a farm, ranch or business is being settled, family members and buyers often need to agree on what equipment there is and what condition it is in. A dated record from an independent agent gives everyone the same starting point.

How families and executors use it

Before dividing an estate. Heirs living in other states can see the same record of each tractor, trailer and tool without traveling.

Before a dispersal or sealed bid sale. Buyers get serial numbers, hours and condition from an independent source, and the record can go straight into an IronMarket sealed bid sales event.

When equipment is moved or stored. A record made before equipment leaves the property shows what was there and in what condition.

One visit, the whole place

  • Each major machine gets its own certificate
  • Attachments and implements can be grouped
  • Shop tools and contents can be one Lot
  • Trailers and vehicles on the same visit

Arranging the visit

The person with authority over the property, often the executor or a family member, needs to allow the agent on site. On the request form, enter that person as the owner contact if you are not the one with authority.

If there is a lot of equipment, call us first so we can plan the visit and the right mix of individual certificates and Lots.

A factual record

A verification records what was there and its condition. For questions about dividing an estate, talk to an attorney.

Common questions

Yes. Major machines can each get a certificate, and smaller items such as tools and attachments can be documented together as a Lot.

No. A verification is a factual record of what was there. Talk to an attorney about how to use it in an estate or a sale.

No, but the owner has to allow the agent onto the property. If you are not the owner, the request form asks for the owner's name and phone number so access can be confirmed before the visit.
